WHAT IS RELATIONAL SOMATIC THERAPY?

The body speaks all the time…we just need to listen. || Mariah Moser

Relational Somatic Therapy (RST) is a body-centered psychotherapeutic approach informed by research in neuroscience, interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, and trauma work. It is a whole-person model that trusts in the intrinsic health that lies beneath our suffering.

The work in an RST session is done by slowing down and entering “body time”, a state in which we bring mindful curiosity to our present-moment experience to gather information. Information that can free up channels of insight, integration and healing, offering us new possibilities in life.

Knowing oneself comes from attending with compassionate curiosity to what is happening within. || Gabor Mate

I come to this work by way of a 20+ year career teaching yoga and meditation. This means that embodied presence and mindfulness practices are essential to how I work with clients. In addition to my training in relational somatic therapy, I am an IFS-informed therapist and am currently enrolled in the Compassionate Inquiry Practitioner Training.

I know firsthand how impactful it can be to have a safe and therapeutic alliance with a counsellor, and it is my hope that my clients will feel that they have a trusted ally in me. My therapeutic approach is client-centered, strengths-based, non-pathologizing, and trauma-informed.

What will you do with your own wild, glorious chance at this thing we call life? || Mary Oliver

The intention of my work is to support my clients in expanding their capacity for resilience through the development of self-awareness, curiosity, inner trust, self-compassion, and embodied safety. I believe that this work can be of benefit to anyone who has an interest in it. However, I have found that it is particularly supportive for folks who –

  • find themselves at a crossroads in life
  • are struggling with relational distress or attachment wounding
  • want to develop greater trust in their own knowing
  • are having a hard time understanding their emotions
  • want to develop greater resilience
  • are living with the impacts of trauma

Trauma is not what happens to us but what we hold inside in the absence of an empathetic witness. || Peter Levine
